Community of School Administrator, Gerardo Loera

The Huntington Park, Walnut Park, and Vernon Community of Schools is led by Gerardo Loera, Community of School Administrator.  He is the son of Mexican immigrants and started his education as an English Learner in a low-income household.  His experience provides Mr. Loera with an understanding of the challeGerardo Loeranges and hard work necessary to thrive in our society.  He is inspired by wanting to create the conditions for teaching and learning that will provide the maximum opportunity for all students to achieve.  Mr. Loera was one of only a few Latino students that graduated in his class from UCLA with a degree in mathematics and he was dismayed overall at how few minority students pursued a degree in STEM majors.  Thus Mr. Loera is driven to change the learning opportunities for all students but especially those who have historically been underserved.

Mr. Loera has over two decades of experience in the Los Angeles Unified School District.  Serving successfully in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a Chief Academic Officer, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Community of School Administrator, Lead Director, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Teacher Supervising and supporting grade levels ranging from Early Education to Adult School.  Mr. Loera also served as Senior Executive Director at New Leaders (www.newleaders.org) where lead principal supervisor development at several large urban districts throughout the country.

In his current role as Community of School Administrator, he leads a team of dedicated staff aimed at providing personalized, direct support to principals, teachers and parents at twenty-four schools.  The support includes ensuring that principals and teachers have the skills, tools and support necessary to grow and successfully apply high priority equitable instructional practices.
